Auto-escalation automatically increases your recurring contribution by 2% each year, on the anniversary of your contribution. It’s designed to help you gradually save more over time — to keep you on track toward your retirement goal and help your contributions keep pace with inflation.
How it works
- When you set up a recurring contribution, auto-escalation is on by default.
- Each year, on your contribution anniversary, your contribution amount increases by 2%.
- You can see whether auto-escalation is on — and turn it off — on your contribution summary page (and on the contribution card on your Plan page).
Why it’s there
Small, automatic increases add up. Raising your contribution a little each year is an easy way to build your retirement savings without having to remember to do it, and it helps your savings keep pace with the rising cost of living. Because it’s shown on your summary page, you’ll always know it’s active and by how much it will increase.
Turning it off
- Go to your contribution summary page, or open the contribution card on your Plan page.
- Toggle auto-escalation off.
- Confirm.
You can turn it back on the same way at any time.
