Other forms of the Question
- I have many part-time jobs with different retirement benefits - how do I know if I qualify?
- If my main job has no pension but my casual job does, can I still apply?
- What if I recently left the job that offered more than 1%?
- I work part-time in multiple places. How do you decide which job counts?
- If only one of my employers meets the 90-day rule, which retirement contribution percentage applies?
Answer:
Yes, you may still qualify. What matters is where you meet the minimum work requirement.
To be eligible, you must:
- Have worked at least 90 days, and
- Have worked at least 156 hours
- In the past 12 months
- In a qualifying role (NOC 33102 or NOC 44101)
You must also work in a role where the employer contributes 1% or less toward retirement savings.
Here is how this works if you have multiple jobs:
If you have one part-time job where the employer contributes more than 1%, but you worked fewer than 90 days and 156 hours in that role, it does not disqualify you.
You can still qualify if:
- You meet the 90-day and 156-hour minimum in a different PSW role, and
- That role provides retirement contributions of 1% or less
